Smooch was at the local pound after being abandoned - twice.  He is cute as a bug, but he has some real issues that need an experienced dog owner to resolve.  He has severe separation issues and he has a bark that can travel hundreds of feet.  We believe that his barking may have been the reason for his being abandoned, too many complaints from neighbors. 

He had absolutely no manners so it appears that he was never worked with at all.  Still no on leash improvement but he does now sit on command and will stay for longer and longer periods.  So he is making progress.  He was afraid to be pet at first so there may have been some abuse in addition to being abandoned.  Once he has trust in you he is extremely affectionate and loves to play tug games and learning to retrieve.  He needs exercise to lower his high energy level.  We think that he does best when he has another dog to stay with.  When left with a similar sized dog, he rarely barks when we leave now.

Did I mention that he is cutting his adult teeth at this time.  Chew toys and objects will be needed through this process.

no apartment or close neighborhood dwellings,

fenced yard so he can use up some of his energy,

another similar sized dog as a companion so he isn't left totally alone,

patience and lots of love.
